Matariki is a Maori new year and celebration of the seven stars of Matariki. One of the many celebrations is lots of lights and the them changes every year. It happens here in Auckland each year at the reserve.
I really love the Matariki festivals that take place here every year. What about you? Do you ever have the chance to go to an event?
My son, Aronui, was actually born during Matariki so it always has a particularly special meaning for me. Not only is it the beginning of the Maori new year but it is also the beginning of another year for Aronui!
