This poem makes me feel very lucky, sad and all these other mixed feelings. Just reading that nearly made me tear up, it just reminded me of all the people that went and fought for our country and risked their entire future, and some lives ended and some families hearts crushed.

You have done a great job reacting to the poem. It is very sad and hard to think about, isn't it. I like how you commented on how sad some families would have been and how much their worlds would have changed.
I wonder, do you like the poem? I think that the poem is beautiful and I like it very much even though it makes me feel sad. I like the last verse most where it says "take up our quarrel with the foe", I think that it is very powerful.
